Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)

This scribble was written in the top margin of the page in a very large and angular hand. A moderately thick pen was used with much shading. The ascender is about as long as or slightly shorter than minims, the descender of wynn is as lnog as or slightly longer than minims, and the descender of þ is short. The ascender and minims have slight serifs, and descenders are straight. The shoulder of r is fairly angular and is not joined to the down-stroke, but the foot is joined to the following minim; the word therefore looks like wiut with a descending i. The left side of u is fairly angular and slightly concave. The descender of s starts at cue-height and descends below the base-line, but the hook is angular and reaches above cue-height. The main Latin script is continental Caroline, but corrections are found in Style-II Anglo-Caroline.
