Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)

This angular script was written with a thick pen which was held flat and with much shading. The ascender is long and has a small wedge. Minims have short approach-strokes and only sometimes have feet. The top of a is flat and rising, the top pointed, and the back vertical. The a-component of æ is rounded but close to teardrop-shaped, the tongue is rising, and the eye squinting. Round c was used, and the shoulders of m and n are somewhat angular, the down-strokes being fairly straight and vertical.
