Some of these were written with a thick pen, and some others were written with a thin pen and very feint ink, but all were written very roughly, with strokes often not joining. Ascenders are long and have small forks or no decoration, descenders are short, and minims have curved approach-strokes and small feet. Letter-forms include single-compartment a, the back angled at about 60°, a short round back to d, round e with a straight rising tongue, round shoulders on n, and a thick round back of ð, the through-stroke concave down and not passing through the left of the back. Caroline a is found in ligature with preceding e, and the scribe also used Caroline h, a hybrid r with a Caroline hook but a full-length descender, and tall essentially Caroline s.
