Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)

This scribble was written in the left-hand margin. Ascenders are long, straight, and without decoration. Descenders are long and curve slightly to the left, and minims have approach-strokes and horizontal feet. The form of a looks more like u, the left side curving in and the top open. The back of d is long and curved up at the tip. Horned e is found with a high tongue and wide squinting eye. The tongue of f is usually short and the hook deeply split. The down-stroke of r turns in to the left. Latin is distinguished by script.
