Stokes, English Vernacular Script, ca 990–ca 1035, Vol. 2 (PhD Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2006)
This script is regular, quite flat-topped, and clearly influenced by Square minuscule. Ascenders are longer than minims and taper. Descenders are short and straight. Minims have short approach-strokes and horizontal feet. Flat-topped a is found. A teardrop-shaped a-component was used for æ, the hook of which forms a tall narrow ligature. The back of d is relatively long and slightly concave down but is essentially bilinear. The hook of e is flat and angular, the back is straight but angled, the tongue is fairly short, and the top is slightly open. The top of g is flat but fairly short, the mid-section hangs from the centre and is close to vertical, and the tail is closed in a long, vertical oblong. The shoulders of m, n, and r can be moderately rounded and branch from below cue-height, or can branch at cue-height and be very angular. Round s is found.
